OUR TREES

Reforestation project in the Yucatán Península

All your trees are planted in the reforestation project in the Yucatán Península, Mexico. Your tree has a certificate from Plant-for-the-Planet, the NGO that we collaborate with. All the trees planted in this zone will absorb up to 1 tone of CO2 during its lifetime, much more than a tree from Germany, for instance. They are able to absorb this quantity of CO2 thanks to its geographical location in the tropics. CO2 is a greenhouse gas that accumulates in our atmosphere and promotes global warming, something that we want to reverse.

Tree planting also promotes the local economy and gives income to regional workers. With this income, they can feed their families, pay the bills and have a shelter. We are committed to support local communities in developing countries, that is another reason why we plant our trees in Mexico.

Warmer Oceans

The oceans have absorbed much of this increased heat, with the top 700 meters (about 2,300 feet) of ocean showing warming of more than 0.4 degrees Fahrenheit since 1969. Oceans absorb most of the excess of greenhouse gas emissions, leading to rising sea temperatures. That can force corals to expel the algae, leaving their white skeletons visible in a process known as “bleaching.” Bleached coral can recover if the water cools, but if high temperatures persist for months, the coral will die.

Shrinking Ice Shelves

The Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets have decreased in mass. Data from NASA's Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment show that Greenland lost an average of 286 billion tons of ice per year between 1993 and 2016, while Antarctica lost about 127 billion tons of ice per year during the same time period. The rate of Antarctica ice mass loss has tripled in the last decade. Therefore, many species are in risk of extinction, such as polar bears.

Global Temperature Rise

According to NASA the planet's average surface temperature has risen about 0.9 degrees Celsius since the late 19th century, a change driven largely by increased carbon dioxide and other human-made emissions into the atmosphere. Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, thermometer readings all around the world have risen steadily. This cannot only lead bad effects on the environment but also in human health, increasing the number of deads for heat waves.

Sea Level Rise

Global sea level rose 8 inches in the last century. However, the rate in the last two decades has nearly doubled and is accelerating slightly every year. Sea level rise is one of several lines of evidence supporting the thesis that the global climate has warmed recently. The rise of the sea level can negatively contribute to humans living in the coasts and islands. The natural environment like marine ecosystems will also be strongly affected
